The Horizon
"There!" he cried,
"Cast your line there!"
For dancing on the water
he spied
his heart's lost love, so fair.

"But Sir," they said
with concern for their friend
"All we but see is
the sunset
sleeping at the water's end."

"No! Can't you tell?" pled he
"She beckons us to go.
Her arms are waves, her dress
the sea,
'Tis she who we must follow!"

"Oh Captain," they replied
"It has since been many years.
You must let go, your love
has died.
You must stop shedding tears."

Whispered, "But she waits for me,"
was all his humble plea,
as the boat continued
sailing
its voyage down the sea.

So many a sailor today
has seen her dancing there-
Her dress the sea, her call
a wave-
No sunset to compare.

And while they sail life away
She takes what they hold dear.
For they loved the sea more than
the day
They fled from love in fear.
