The Road
The Road I take is hard and long
Yet it alone knows where I belong.
Its sight can see much farther than mine
But Its strong will cannot leave me behind.
It has been to places I have not
And the people that tread, It has not forgot.
The hills It climbs are beyond my reach.
The secrets to life It has yet to teach.
It has seen the days both good and bad
Has helped those travelers both lost and sad.
The rocks and dirt that fall from stride
Are covered by Nature on both Its sides.
It has seen hundreds of years through
The skies of pink and gray and blue.
The shadows cast upon Its face
It takes them in with warm embrace.
And when this Road no longer goes
To the destination everyone knows
And stops to break at the middle of Earth
It is I who must make a brand new birth.
I who will start the Road again.
I who will meet and greet new friends.
I who will travel the hills too high,
I who will look back down and sigh
On that old Road I used to know
And the Natures that along it grow.
I who will stand at the break of day
And see the dawn in a whole new way.
I will make my Road to be
My only path to Eternity.
