Abstract
A survey of current research on reliable video transmission over lossy packet networks is presented in this dissertation. Reliability can be provided by encoding the data in such a way that transmission errors would have minimal effect, and by using error concealment techniques at the receiver. Some proposed solutions for enhancing the error robustness and the quality of service for video transmission schemes that utilise interframe prediction at the encoding stage are presented, using a simulation model of a H.263-compliant codec.
