Following are some assignments submitted as a requirement for specific modules for the MSc in Telecommunications, UCL. All documents are in `gzipped' postscript format.

Software for Networks and Services
The assignment consisted of three trivial programming exercises in Java, the object-oriented design procedure for these exercises, and an essay on the future of Java.

In this document, an investigation of the opportunities that have emerged in the telecommunications industry for a successful investment of non-incumbent companies is presented. The segments considered are Data Networks, Local Access, Intelligent Networks, and Internet Services.

Intelligent Networks and Services
The assignment deals with the forthcoming ETSI standard, CAMEL (Customised Applications for Mobile Enhanced Logic), which enables the deployment of Intelligent Network Services for GSM networks. After the description of the standard, the feasibility of CAMEL-CTI integration is investigated.

Networks and Services Management
The first part of this assignment deals with the requirements of a customer reception support system for a telecommunications operator. It is followed by an analysis of the stages of managing telecommunications equipment. The last part deals with the software models used for network management, covering the Manager-Agent model used in SNMP and OSI-SM and the ODP model used in CORBA-based implementations, and stating why TMN and TINA have chosen their respective models.

Interactive Multimedia Systems
This assignment deals with the forthcoming convergence of the telecommunications, information technology, and broadcasting industries, in order to provide interactive multimedia services to business and domestic subscribers. In the first part, the technical aspect is presented, followed by a comparative evaluation of the steps needed to be taken from the three industries. The second part deals with the emergent business opportunities and probable pitfalls for the telecommunications industry, with respect to interactive multimedia service provision for the home users.
