| Ghost of the Steel Rail, Pirate of New Orleans | |||||
| this is a song i wrote and picked out lines from other songs to put in it. i consider it my song, because i always explain it and because i actually wrote it. there are a couple lines from "in the pines" and a couple from "house of the rising sun" and the chord progression is the dave van ronk version of the latter. also the poet mentioned is one miss arielle medford. | |||||
| there is a train to new orleans upon it i do ride up and down these rails of evil deeds i ramble till i die the longest train i ever saw went down that georgia line but i never, no i never, saw a train even half as mean as the train that i call mine in the pines, in the pines where the sun it never shines and ye shiver when the cold winds blow its there, where i lost my baby its there i lost my soul i am known as the ghost of the steel rail and the pirate of new orleans i smoke, i sing, i gamble, as always i ramble i do, whatever i please there is a house in new Orleans some call the rising sun but that it rose and set on me so now, i have my fun a poet once told me these words i say to you 'ever brilliant is the waning night sky dance with the devil and realize his sincerity' o the poet, she dont lie so all you parents, out there, tell yer children if they come to new orleans if they even think of riding on that steel rail tell them theyll have to go through me.. |
