| There was a young woman named Tess Whose kidneys got into a mess So she put her bone marrow In a silver wheelbarrow And they cleaned it all through And painted it too, All red, white, and blue, And soon she'll be perfect, I guess ~Limerick by Garrison Keillor written for Tess on 7/8/96 while she was at Mayo for her bone marrow transplant |

| I am the daughter of one of Tess's grandmother (Petey)'s friends. I have a daughter close in age to Tess, and Tess's story had a profound impact on my mother and those close to Petey. She sounds like she was a remarkable child and I am sorry we were unable to know her in life. From what I have come to know of her, she may have been the bent, but was never the broken.
