I have gathered a short history of the Clan.

The McLoughlans belong to the Clan Maclachlan.

If anyone wants to add to this history,

Or correct any of it,

The origin of the clan is disputed;
one thought is that they traveled to Scotland
from Ireland in the early 11th century.

Until 1241 the MacLochlainns were virtually the rulers of Ulster,

until they suffered defeat at the hands of King Brian O'Neill.

In 1292 King John Balliol erected Argyll into a sheriffdom.

Patrick Maclachlan, married one of
James the Steward of Scotland's daughters,

they had a son, Lachlan, who succeeded him.

Lachlan's son, Donald, was paid forty shillings yearly
out of the lands of Kilbride,

with an additional annuity of six shillings and eight-pence

from his lands of Kilbryde near Castellachlan.

At one point the Maclachlans followed the Earls of Mar
to the Battle of Sheriffmuir.

In 1745 the Maclachlans rallied to Prince Charles Edward Stuart.

The chief was appointed to the prince's staff as commissary general.

During the Second World War, the clan chiefship was assumed by

Marjory Maclachlan of Maclachlan.

In 1939 she and her party escaped across the River Seine

as the Nazis approached the French Coast.

Her father, Major John Maclachlan,

had commanded the Argyllshire Volunteer Regiment

during the First World War.

It is thought though that the original seat appears to have been in

Lochaber, where a very old branch of the family

has from the earliest period been settled as native men of the Camerons.

Ian was born on 17 Oct 55 in Coatbridge
at his Grannies house in West George St.,
he was the 2nd of four children.
He went to Gartsherrie Primary School
and then onto Clifton High School,
When he left school worked as a waiter
in the Coatbridge Hotel.
Next Ian worked in Georgian Hotel
where they made him up to restaurant manager
a job he didn't enjoy.
Ian then went to different restaurants
as a self trained chef.
At one point he worked in one of his friends restaurants
where he cooked and served the food.
In the last few years of his life
he was self-employed working in different restaurants around his hometown.

His favorite pastimes were making the odd wager and
his children.

He was one of the funniest people anyone ever meet
he was always laughing and playing jokes on people,
he was one of the most popular guys around,
when he changed restaurants so did his customers,
they followed not only for the good food
but also for his humor.

A recent addition to the family is Jordyn.
Ians great nephew,
his full name is Jordyn Ian Laird,
the Ian being in memory of his
Uncle Ian.
