Well, not all protesters are stupid, just the group I saw today. I’m referring to a group known as Westboro Baptist church, led by Fred Phelps. They were protesting in Norman and other parts of OKC today because of a funeral for a soldier killed in Iraq. I went to check out the protest when my cousin called and told me they were holding signs that said, “Thank god for IEDs” and “Troops die, God laughs.” So, I put on my unit’s t-shirt from Iraq and drove out to counter-protest them. When I showed up to the street corner where they were protesting, I almost laughed. There were about seven protesters on the street corner. Across the street and on the adjacent street corner a crowd of about forty or more had gathered holding American flags, the Army flag, signs of support for our troops and, of course, loud motorcycles. The patriotic group was cheering and laughing and basically having fun. Meanwhile, across the street, the protesters were quietly scowling, holding their signs, and looking quite pathetic. So what started out as an anti-troop protest turned into a patriotic rally with loud motorcycles and cars honking in support of troops. I'd only been their 15 minutes and the protesters gave up and went home. Afterwords all those from my group shook hands and said our goodbyes to eachother.

After researching the Internet I discovered who this group was. The Westboro Baptist Church isn’t a church at all. They are a group of extremists from Topeka, Kansas. They run two websites, www.godhatesfags.com and www.godhatesamerica.com. Apparently God hates their webmaster and server because when I went to view the web pages it took a long time to load and was very tacky. From what I saw on the site they are basically a cult who believe that god hates everyone except the most religiously fanatic and retarded.

The God Hates America site makes many outrageous claims such as, “Too Late To Pray!!!!  AMERICA IS DOOMED!! That's right, America!! It is too late to pray for the good of the USA!!” “It is a sin NOT to take pleasure in the wrathful outpourings of God's justice on this nation. ‘The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked’ (Ps. 58:10).  That's not an invitation, it's a directive.” If this is true then what will protesting things matter? If we are all going to hell then you should just lock yourselves in a facility and enjoy the end of the world. I’m no Theologian but I don’t think you are supposed to switch between Old Testament and New Testament to suit your needs. In fact once Jesus came into the picture the Old Testament became a just book of fables and stories. The only reason the Old Testament was kept was because of tradition and because it still has the fundamentals built into it e.g. the Ten Commandments.

On the God Hates Fags site it says, “JESUS CHRIST DIED ONLY FOR THOSE WHO BELIEVE. ‘For God so loves the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.’ John 3:16.” If God so loves the world then how can we all be doomed, as noted above. Also, you aren’t born a believer in Christ. So, it still isn’t too late, we aren’t really doomed.

I won’t go into other specifics about things I found on the site but this whole thing is just rubbish propaganda and a lot of “we warned you and now it’s too late.”
