Inheritance

In Genesis 23-27 the land takes center stage. Abraham buys a plot of land to bury Sarah for four hundred shekels of silver. In the next chapter Abraham sends his servant to get a wife for Isaac, so that Isaac would not have to leave the land. Abraham's children by Keturah are sent away eastward so that the land would be reserved for Isaac.  God reinforces this by instructing Isaac not to go down to Egypt during a famine.

Jacob gets the claim to the land by getting his brother's birthright and blessing.  Though he gets it by means that are deceptive, he shows he understands the nature of the inheritance and that he is willing to take measures to get it.

God has given us a spiritual inheritance that we should dwell in, even during the hard times -- Jesus Christ.  He calls us to deny ourselves, take up our crosses, and follow Him so that we may enjoy His blessing.
