"There's no place like home..."

Genesis 18-22 presents several aspects to home life: hospitality, children, and good neighbors. When the Lord and his angels visited Abraham he received them with hospitality, and He blessed them with a child. The angels went on to Sodom, where they were welcomed only by Lot, who had to bar the door to protect his guests. The lack of a warm welcome by the people of Sodom got them a firestorm.   Lot escapes with his daughters, who are worried about how they are going to have children, and they take matters into their own hands.  They have no idea how much trouble that will cause for generations to come, because their descendants are the Moabites and the Ammonites, who go to war with Israel several times in the centuries to come.

Abraham and Abimelech work out their misunderstandings, and seek peace with each other.  But at home, Abraham has several tests with his sons:  Sarah no longer wants Hagar and Ishmael around, and God asks him to sacrifice Isaac.  Through all these things Abraham trusts God and knows that He knows best.  We can entrust the details of our own homes to God in the same way.
