Claim to the throne

1 Kings 1-2 is about David's impending death and the question of who would follow after him. Adonijah, David's oldest surviving son, wants the kingdom for himself and plans accordingly. When Nathan and Bathsheba are made aware of this, they tell David, who gives instructions for the coronation of Solomon. Solomon is crowned king, and Adonijah and his followers fear for their lives. Solomon then either executes or removes from power all those who opposed him and his father David.

God still is in control of who rules His people, and nothing gets in His way. Let us rejoice, give thanks to God, and submit to His sovreign will.
