Preparation and Transition

Deuteronomy 27-34 is about the transfer of authority from Moses to Joshua, the reiteration of the covenant, and blessing and cursing attached to obedience and rebellion, respectively.

The five books which made up the Law were now complete. The commandments given as well as the lessons taught were final. From this point onward, the people of Israel would be measured against this standard.

Likewise, the whole of Scripture is the Word of God, and is the standard for believers today.  It is the faithful and true witness to God's faithfulness and sovreignty.

I have also given thought to the analogy of the Pentateuch in the Old Testament to the Gospels in the New.  As the Law set forth the terms of man's relationship to God in the Old Testament, so the Gospels set forth the terms of God's relationship to man in the New.
