History Lesson

Deuteronomy 1-3 is a review of how Israel got from where they were to where they are as described in this passage. In particular, their refusal to enter Canaan is emphasized, as well as the conquests of the Amorites and Bashan. The allotment of the land east of the Jordan is recounted, as well as Moses' denied entry into Canaan, and the appointment of judges to help Moses administer justice.

In knowing where we are heading, it is important to know our past successes and failures so that we know who we are in relation to God.  God is faithful to us, even when we are not faithful to Him.  Such things are cause for praise and celebration.
