Towards What End?

Ecclesiastes 1-6 observes the apparent futility in life, seeing that we as human beings are not an end unto ourselves. We all die, wisdom brings grief, pleasure does not satisfy, and the fruit of our labor is inherited by those who did not earn it and who may not be wise enough to manage it well.

The earth and all who dwell in it are here for God's purposes. God made us for His pleasure, not our own self-serving ends. To rejoice in Him is our highest calling in life, and everything else is to be used for God's glory.
