Hope (and home) of Israel

Psalms 135-137 describe God's leading the people of Israel into the Promised Land and their exile after the fall of Jerusalem. God had always been Israel's hope while they were in the Promised Land, and now was Israel's only hope of returning to that land. The Israelites knew where their true home was, and they knew after learning the hard way that God was their only hope of getting and staying there.

Just as Israel could not feel at home in Babylon, so we as Christians are not at home here on earth. Heaven is our true home, our promised land. As we live in exile here let us remember that God is our only hope of getting to our true home.
