Hyria or Orra (Oria) was an inland city on the Appian Way, between Tarentum and Brundisium. Loading the special browser, free, you will discover that Hyria is a virtual 3D world.  Much more than a chat, much more than a game.    
   
It is not the usual site with doodles and more repetitive ordinary photos.  
 
You will found in a three-dimensional environment devoting Italy, with virtual reconstruction of the
historical center of the mysterious tourist town of the south. Looking around,  you will also notice some figures that are stiring. They are not a simple animations. Behind them there are true people,
connected by various places of the world and that they are meeting each other in the chat, walking, exploring and also realizing and making experimental 3D constructions!   
   
The idea of the reconstruction, in virtual environment and chat of Hyria, is also to represents a good
occasion of meeting by distance between all the citizens of Oria and outskirtses that today are living
shed for the world for the most varied reasons.   
   
The browser ActiveWorlds is a kind of parallel internet, three-dimensional, where the traditional
"sites" are corresponding to the instead "worlds", links are teleports, internal addresses are 3D
coordinates and navigation is really 3D. You could find more than thousand different worlds to explore and to save your favorite places to visit again. You will meet eccentric ideas and fantastic constructions.
Hyria is today one of these worlds.

Die Landschaft bleibt immer ein einförmiges Flachland und von derselben reichen Kultur unabsehbarer Olivenwälder bedeckt, welche mit Weizenfeldern abwechseln. Nur nordwärts ragt ein Höhenzug auf, und über diesem wird eine große weiße Stadt sichtbar, deren Mittelpunkt ein mächtiges Kastell einnimmt. Das ist das uralte Oria oder Uria, die Königsburg und Metropolis der Messapier, eine der berühmtesten Städte des alten Kalabrien. Mit Verlangen blickte ich auf diesen monumentalen Ort eines unermeßlichen Alters, dessen emporgetürmte Massen über dem blauen Gebirge im Sonnenlicht einen herrlichen Anblick gewährten, während von seiner Burg ein fremder Mythenhauch vorhellenischer Zeiten herabzudringen schien. Jetzt bedauerten wir es lebhaft, daß wir nicht die Straße von Brindisi nach Tarent gewählt hatten, denn sie würde uns nach Oria geführt haben.

Nach der Mythe war Oria (Herodot nennt die Stadt Hyria) eine Gründung des Japyx, eines Sohnes des Dädalus, also kretischen Ursprungs; ohne Zweifel war es dies meerbeherrschende Inselvolk, welches das nahe Kalabrien mit Kolonien erfüllt hat. Die Japygen vereinigten sich mit Messapiern, die sie in jenem Lande bereits vorfanden, und Oria wurde der messapische Königssitz. Die mächtige Stadt führte Krieg mit dem benachbarten Tarent; Hannibal eroberte sie, und nach dessen Besiegung wurde sie römisch. Sie dauerte unter dem Wechsel der Zeiten fort, doch ihre alten Monumente gingen unter. Der König Manfred, welchem sein Vater Tarent als Fürstentum verliehen hatte, soll die Burg neu aufgebaut haben.
