SCOS Objective:

COMPETENCY GOAL 3:

The learner will explore concepts of geometry.

Objectives

3.01
Identify, build, draw, and name triangles, rectangles, and circles; identify, build, and name spheres and cubes.

3.02     Compare geometric shapes (identify likenesses and differences).

Key Questions: What so I want the students to learn?

1.     What shapes are.

2.     What the differences between the shapes are.

3.     Some of the many ways that shapes are used.

Materials/ Resources/ Technologies:

·        Open minds ready to learn

·        Paper

·        Pencil

·        Dry erase board or overhead projector

·        Dry erase or overhead pens/markers

·        Shape stencils

·        Examples of where shapes are used

Procedures:

1.     The lesson will begin with an icebreaker (I will hold up a shape and ask the students to identify it)

2.     I will introduce the lesson topic

3.     I will hand each student paper cut outs of each shape

4.     As a class we will go through and name each shape

5.     I will call out the shapes to the students and have them hold up the cut out that goes with it

6.     We will practice drawing the shapes as a class

7.     Students will be called on randomly to come up and draw a certain shape

8.     We will look around the classroom and at some pictures to see if we can see some of the shapes in use and how

9.     I will do a summary of what we have just gone over and allow for any questions

Differentiation:

Try to make sure that the lesson gets and keeps the attention of the class

Next steps:

Another lesson on shapes will be done to continue the shapes unit
