   A good size crowd that arrived early had to line up for Toronto/Canada's first EBM-Wave festival. They waited outside as delays in setup kept them from entering right away.  Locals Delica came onstage first and had a few mixing/sound issues.  From nearby Kitchener, Weave (link coming) hit the crowd with more electronics and noise.

   Arriving from México City, Hocico was exclusive Special Guests at EBMfest 2001. It was their first ever US/Canada gig with fans coming from San Francisco & NYC to see them play!  By the time they took the stage the room was full & intent on checking out their show. After a brief setup/check they started their assault.

   The band had just finished the recording of their new LP the night before they left for Canada.  The duo are cousins and happily answered questions prior to the show. Erk did most of the talking as he was well versed in english. He translates for Rasco as he mentions sometimes he plays so intensely his fingers will bleed during/after their sets.   Once onstage, they displayed more energy than most bands seen at the venue.  The crowd appreciated their efforts and many were very surprised.



   They started making music together in 1993 being influenced by electro pioneers Skinny Puppy and their first demo was on Cassette called "AUTOAGRESION PERSISTENTE" in 1994.



   Their song 'Cuando la Maldad Despierta' recenty appeared in the mexican film soundtrack of 'Perfume de Violetas'(2000).  They have toured Europe before and done some festival gigs.




 

   Hocico & Dulce Liquido(a side project) appear on a 2001 compilation CD by mexican electro Club Dada X.  Yes, this was the band to open OhGr's US Summer Tour 2001 but difficulties prevented that from happening. The wait was worth it as OhGr didn't make it to Toronto in that round of shows.





   I do have 2 short amateur MPEG-1 320x240 monaural Video clips of them performing live & will be post as soon as I can find a FTP Site that will accept 15MB+ single file uploads.





   Definately rising from the early Skinny Puppy mindset, their set - a mix of early Back&Forth and NE's danceable That Total Age. One of their finer moments was with a large crowd opening for Rammstein.




 
 



   Hocico's recent precursor german 'Untold Blasphemies' MaxiCD release in Sept.2001. 

     

   Hocico's new 'Signos De Aberracion' CD release is coming out on OUT OF LINE records. The band say the new LP will be more noisy & are very excited about it.   It's available in a special BoxSet including an exclusive 'Silent Wrath' MaxiCD, exclusive Hocico T-Shirt, exclusive Keyring Pendant, Postcards, Sticker as well as the CD(BoxSet limited to 1,500 copies).  The CD is to be released on Feb.11.02

     

   Hocico is starting a European Tour in March 2002 and makes a stop at Sweden's SAMAs. If you have a chance to see them definately do. Their popularity in Europe may keep them away from US/Canadian venues. A brief trip to Mexico might be the answer.



 
   Ital/Canadian combo Decoded Feedback (link coming) rounded out the evening. DJ Antithesis spun between sets. About 275 ppl made it to EBMfest!
  Merch, Radio and local community organization booths were setup in the periphery. Limited Edition Hocico t-shirts were sold exclusively at the show. EBMfest is slated for a 2002 date later in the year.
