| NASA Photographs of Enormous Flying Saucers This series of images were taken using a camera mounted on a US space shuttle during Columbia Space Shuttle mission STS-75. NASA thought it would be fun to attach a 12 mile long tether to the space shuttle with a satellite at the end of it. Like a bad kite day, the string broke, and within minutes the satellite, and the tether were hurtling through space away from Columbia. For some wierd reason, the tether was glowing like a flourescent lightbulb in space, making it easy to see from the shuttle. NASA, being the fine filmakers they are, managed to keep a video camera fixed on the drifting tether. As the camera zooms in toward the tether, you begin to see swarms of round objects flying about the scene. These disc-shaped objects seem to be very interested in NASA's experiment. At this point, an astronaut makes a casual mention to "debris" that sometimes seem to accompany shuttle missions. In this series of images, the "debris" appears to be a few miles across in diameter, when compared to the 12 mile long tether. Note that in the first image, the object is traveling behind the tether. In the video there are dozens of giant flying saucers |
