"Warning Sign"
~Sara Montey~

I read about it in the paper
One Tuesday afternoon
Had it's tiny little space
To make room for the big news
"New Water Plan" in great bold print
Took up almost half the page
And in tiny print down below read:
"A teenage girl, about 16
Tells police that she was raped
By a man pretending to be one of their own.
No further information is to be released."
Are they trying to protect us
From seeing what really happens
Or are they pretending that it didn't
So people don't worry

*Chorus*
How 'bout a warning sign
Throw in the caution flag
Make it big and bold
So everyone knows
This world ain't perfect
And sometimes you need
A little warning sign.
*

What if you were driving down the road
And the bridge was out ahead
A flimsy piece of paper
Was nailed to a board
And blowing' in the wind that read:
"Do not enter-the road comes to an end."
But the little note wasn't quite enough
To keep you out of the hospital bed.

*Chorus*

I read about it in the paper
One Tuesday afternoon
Had it's tiny little space
To make room for the big news
