| Nightmares of a Soldier By Kate-chan (again...) Disclaimer: Again, you all know what they are, so let's fast-foward to the good part already, shall we? Part Three (Yay! The last part! I can go sleep after this!!!!!!!!) Duo ran. He ran, and ran, and ran, until his lungs felt as if they were going to burst if he heaved another breath. He stopped to bend over and think. He heard a sound, and straightened quickly. Was that a puppy whining? Wtih all the rain, he couldn't tell. He moved in the direction of the sound. It came from a little copse of trees, a small, ptitful whimpering. He sneaked closer and peering through the opening. An old wooden picnic table stood there, and on top of it was a boy, on his side and curled into himself, his back to Duo. He wore a dark green tank top and black spandex shorts. Duo jumped and whooped in relief; he's know that outfit anywhere. It was Heero. He turned and called out, "Found him! He's right here, hurry up!" He heard an answering yell and grinned at the darkening sky. Storm clouds churned angrily overhead, and the wind whirled ever faster through the treetops. That small task done, Duo hurried over to the table and proceeded to shake Heero awake. The other boy cried out and shrank away from Duo's touch. Duo was scared. What had happened to Heero? He had never acted like this, he was always the strong one. He tapped his friend more gently and murmured, "Hey, Heero? You awake?" Heero slowly opened his dark blue eyes to lock into Duo's lighter ones. He almost smiled and sighed softly, then abruptly fell asleep, a serene stillness in his face. Duo's eyes softened as he looked on this more vulnerable side of his friend. He carefully slid his arms under Heero's curled body and lifted him gently, smiling to himself. He turned as the other boys ran up. Quatre cried out in relief and rushed to see if Heero was all right. Trowa felt the unconscious boy's forehead as Quatre asked urgently, "What happened? Why was he here? Did he tell you?" Wufei stared at Heero and murmured, "You were right, Quatre. Something was wrong with Heero. And he came here to think about it, whatever it was. And he seems to have found his peace." Quatre nodded. Suddenly trowa, ever calm in the face of a storm, (no pun intended, folks!) stated, "He has a fever. He's burning up." Quatre abruptly went into action. "Of course, he's been out here for so long, he probably got a cold or something..." he fretted. Then his tone changed. "Well, we'll have to get him home fast, keep him warm, get some fluids into him...and whatever was bothering him will have to wait until he chooses to tell us." "If he chooses to tell us," Wufei muttered darkly. Duo grinned. He didn't care what had happened to Heero, as long as he came to terms with it. As long as he's safe... he thought as they all rushed home, his best friend in his arms. ~Owari~ Duo: I don't like what you're hinting... Me: Don't kid yourself. You're so paranoid, you know that? You had better watch it, or else you'll turn into Relena... Duo: Take that back! Me: Why should I? It's true! Duo: You'll pay for THAT one, Kate-chan! *cracks knuckles* Me: You're all talk, but no guts. Or brains, now that I think about it... *brandishes her sword* Duo: HEY! (click of Heero's gun's safety being turned off) Heero: *stares angrily* Duo: Meep! Excuse me, I have to go and, uh, repair Deathscythe. *runs away* Me: Eep! Yeah...me too. *runs away in opposite direction* Heero: (amazed) And they didn't know it wasn't loaded... |
