| The band that eventually would become known as the Hype was founded in May 2004 under the name "Nevaeh" (which in case you're real stupid is heaven spelt backwards) by guitarist Brian Tuohy and bassist Liam McCormack. Drummer John Cooney soon joined and soon afterwards singer/guitarist Aran Carey was recruited and the band enjoyed (i use the term loosely) a six month spell with Carey performing a grand total of five gigs. Meanwhile a long and lasting friendly rivalry began between Nevaeh and popular local choice Esuna, which eventually died out somewhere along the line(The rivalry like, not Esuna... sigh of relief). Meanwhile, an "unofficiall" bootleg of the song "Twista Girls" had leaked (much to Steifven Boss's "mild" displeasure. Carey's departure in February of 2005 left the band with a crippling three month famine (Carey susequently joined Cruzer aka Conor's band) but the three remaining members never gave up hope and even jammed with Azimuth Split frontman Owen Hickie for a time. In May 2005, a new singer (Mel Doherty) and a new name ("The Lemon Suspicion") allowed the band to recommence performing in public and four gigs were played in a three month timeline until September when due to a mutual agreement Mel and the band parted ways musically. Two months passed until the opportunity to play a charity gig inspired local singing sensation Paul Tynan to volunteer and step up to the task at hand. The band was renamed "The Hype" and no one has looked back since. Our first live gig in the Niteowl took place on the 4th of February 2006 and the reaction was without doubt very very satisfactory. A steady flow of regular gigging ensued and subsequently the Hype are Officially the FIRST band of the 5 Secondary school bands in Tipp to branch out of Tipperary Town so expect to hear a hell of a lot more from us!
