Fuck yeah...Ulcerate without a doubt is most brutal death metal acts ever come up to surface from New Zealand. Describing how their style really took me lots of time, I'm drowning into their complexity when ' The Coming Of Genocide ' gorging and swallowing fastest hyperblast and tightest rolling as fill in done by Jamie Saint Merat, he has style like a combination of Flo Mournier and Kevin Talley...pushing the technical guitars skill from Michael Hoggard and bass player Jared Commerer, yet the emotional growl barking of James Wallace. Imagine if the dark element like Deeds Of Flesh mixed with a superb technical of Cryptopsy..only one band called Ulcerate can handle both brutal parts.

How do you feel about ' The Coming Of Genocide ' ? what were the main influences in creating this record ?

I think it is a cool representation of the band at that point and time, kinda captures everything that we are about, and hints at where we are taking the band. In terms of the production and song-writing, definitely happy with it for the most part, it has gotten us a fair bit of exposure and recognition, which is all you can hope to achieve with a demo, and new people everywhere seem to be into it. Main influences? I think at the time we were getting into stuff like Immolation, Cryptosy, Origin, Hate Eternal, and I think in hindsight it definitely shows those influences… although there are a lot of hints throughout that showcase an original sound that we're pursuing and cultivating with our current full-length, which is going to be pushed even more in the future…

I heard that you guys has signed by Neurotic Records for upcoming new album...so what happened with The Flood Recs ?

The Flood is dealing strictly with 'The Coming of Genocide' release, we were never signed to them for a full-length, hence our work with Neurotic.

Which song on ' The Coming Of Genocide ' best represents the sound you're trying to achieve with Ulcerate ?

No favorites in that sense, all songs fit well into the progression of the sound, for instance the song 'The Coming of Genocide' has been reworked structurally and re-recorded for 'OF Fracture and Failure', so what we're doing these days is basically one or two steps ahead of that material.

Everytime I play your album, I always concetrate to listen your drumming and it is very amazing, how old are you when you first start to learn percussions ? and who is your hero ?

Thank you man, really appreciate it! Well, I was 21 on that disc, and I started jamming drums in high school age 14, so 9 years (that's far too long hehe) as of now. I have a lot of drummers that I think are amazing: Thomas Lang, Marco Minneman, Thomas Grebb, Dave Weckl, John Blackwell, Jojo Mayer and extreme drummers are doing fucking awesome stuff too like Derek Roddy, John Longstreth, Flo Mounier, Kai Hahto, Frost, Tony Laureano, Romain Goulon, Timo Hakkinen, Hannes Grossman, Brann Dailor.

New Zealand...how the scene going ?

Its okay at the moment, lost a couple of key bands last year that kind of put a damper on things, but there's always new stuff coming through. Hard to say, feels like there's some sort of transition happening at the moment, but that'll come right soon enough. Everyone here is really supportive of us and what we're doing so that's cool. Some great bands to check out are Dawn of Azazel, Creeping, Gomorrah, Skuldom, Asphyxiate, OdiusEmbowel…

What is your biggest ambition during you're involve in death metal world?

I want to take this band as far as it can go, both 'career' wise and creatively. At the end of the day, we want to be creating music that is genre-defying - a few bands nail it, but most follow end up falling in line with what is 'acceptable' for extreme bands. We're all listening to a lot of amazing stuff outside of death metal that I think can be worked into this context, which we've started to explore on 'Of Fracture and Failure' and have plans to develop with the next full-length. Ulerate will always be extreme death metal but that doesn't mean it has to be conventional in any sense of the word…
