kandu 5 was a female icelandic orca who was cought in october of 77. she was sent to sea world california. 10 years after her capture, in april of 87 kandu was impregnated by orky just after 3 months after his introduction to seaworld and a year after her stillbirth. one day in june of 87 kandu was showing alot of aggression towards corky. this eventualy lead to a fight between the two, with both orcas colliding violently. after seconds corky had a 2 1/2 to 3 foot gash on her lower torso with blood boiling out of it. kandu might had attacked corky couse of the fact she was pregnant. on nov 23 of 88 orkid was born but 3 days later orky died. kandu5 had a real aggressive personality (especilly towards corky)but in 87 kandu landed ontop of former trainer joanne webber when she was riding on corky's back then kandu pushed her to the bottem of the tank but thankfully she wasnt killed and the accident happened during a practice session a year before kandu reportedly took 2 female trainers in her mouth on 2 occasions in 1984, then pinned a male trainer against a wall at shamu in november86. .
kandu and corky were always fighting over dominance in the female rank even after 3 years of living together. but even when corky would submit kandu would just keep herassing her. they would always rake and bite each other's flanks which was usually minor. but on aug21 89 during an afternoon show kandu seen corky swimming with orkid, this upset kandu very much. she rammed corky in the wall raking her with her teeth.when kandu struk corky again kandu hit the wall as she ran corky into it. this caused kandu to fracture her jaw and cut many main arteries. when kandu swam to the north rear pool she was exhaling about a 7 ft spout of blood. the hemerage persisted for 45 minutes which was her time of death leaving 11month orkid to be cared for by corky. |
