Critical Writing Day 7

Our firm uses a design process that follows a set of procedures that in the end come out with the best design for both the building’s formal uses and its occupant’s convenience & comfort.  The first phase of our design process is the Pre-Design Phase, where my firm gathers vital information from both the customer and the purposed sight.  The second phase of the process is the conceptual Phase, where we begin to theorize on what the end result will look like and begin making free hand sketches.  The final phase of the design process is the Schematic Design Phase.  In this phase my firm will draw out and exact floor plan and create elevation and sectional views of what the finished building will look like.  There are two remaining steps in the process that have mainly to do with construction work.  By combining these six phases into our design process we are able to give our customers the most satisfaction by combining both traditional and contemporary designs.

When constructing a new building we take into account both the individual needs of the people who will be using the rooms and the overall needs of all of the people that will be using a building so that the space is used to the most extant and our customers get the most for their money.  Such things that are included in this are which rooms need to be placed close together and which need to be placed far away from each other.  This could also include the placement of doors and widows in a room so that the people within get the best lighting and the maximum usage of the space that they are in at the time being.  Orientation of the building is another thing that my firm pays special attention to because the northern direction can influence wind currents and heating or cooling depending on the season.  Through all of these factors my firm creates a building to best suit our customers so that they get the most for their money.

Critical Writing Day 14

There are two solutions to your problem.  Option one is that you can move your company and to the outskirts of town.  Option B is to stay in your current location and simply renovate the building.  Both options are equally viable and should be up for discussion.

To begin, renovating you building has several advantages.  By staying within the city your company is able to work out of a location that all of your workers are familiar with and it costs much less than moving your business to the outskirts of the city.  However, by renovating you are leaving your business no space to grow and eventually you will have the same problems with space.

Next, by moving your company to the outskirts of the city your company will be able to expand as much as needed now and in the future.  Also, by moving out of the center of the city the environmentalists might get off of your back because you will no longer be located in an area of high population.  The down side to such a move would be the cost of either renting, renovating or building a new building for your purposes, not to mention the cost of moving all of your current supplies out to the new location.

In the end I would sudjest that you move your company to the outskirts of the city so that your company can continue to grow and in the end make enough money out weigh the cost of the move.  It is my belief that if you leave your business in its current location that you will end up having the same space problems in two or three years.
