Unit Title: Learning Styles

Description:  Which type are you?

Specifications:  3 Paragraphs

Paragraph 1:  Describe in detail which type you are.  Provide a description of THAT kind of learning.  The description should be not less than 50 words and five sentences. It should include details of your personality that relate to your learning style.

I am an Interpersonal Learner.  People who are Interpersonal Learners like to have lots of friends, talk to people and join groups.  They are good at understanding people, leading others, organizing, communicating, manipulating and mediating conflicts.  They learn best by sharing, comparing, relating, cooperating and interviewing.  An Interpersonal Learner operates primarily through person-to-person relationships and communication. Interpersonal intelligence is activated by person-to-person encounters in which such things as effective communication, working together with others for a common goal, and noticing distinctions among people are necessary and important.

Paragraph 2:  Sample Lesson: provide a sample lesson for someone with that type.  The lesson sample should also be at least 50 words and five sentences. You should pick a subject which is NOT the same as your learning style and explain how a teacher could integrate your learning style into THAT class in order to make it more interesting for you.  For example, if you are 'mathematical', then don't write a sample lesson for a math class.  Instead, consider how someone could write a lesson for a history class, or English class.  Research your learning style online to find clues about lessons.

For a teacher to effectively teach a student that is and Interpersonal learner they must keep a few things in mind.  First, the teacher and student need to be able to have and effective verbal or non verbal communication.  This can be done with a simple conversation or, if both people know how, through sign language.   By doing this it is easier for a student to learn and progress farther in their studies at a faster rate.  Making a lesson more of a social thing where ideas are introduced to the learner in a friendly environment will increase the ability of the student to learn and in the end succeed. For example, to teach a science lesson upon the ionic charge of atoms I would break the class into groups of four and hand out boxes containing three different types of marshmallows, different colors.  I would also hand out tooth picks.  After handing out the materials I would have one person in every group come up to my desk and learn about what their group will be doing today.  That person would then go back to their group and explain to the group members what needs to be done.  After ensuring that all groups understood the requirements of the lab I would then walk around the class room, observing and helping where needed.

Paragraph 3: Finally, in 50 words or more (and five sentences again), describe your favorite lesson from ANY class. It could be from any grade level, but should indicate a particular activity that you liked. Notice whether your favorite lesson is similar to your indicated learning style or not.

My favorite lesson plan was in seventh grade.  My teacher took my entire class outside for science and we learned about all of the plants around the school and the animals in the stream next to the school.  We did this by working in groups and study the plants and animals together.  This appealed to my learning style because it was a group related activity and made the learning more fun.  By doing this the teacher insured that the students would have the support of their peers while at the same time where learning at their own rate.
