Interview with Living Recovery

Follow the neatly kept, tastefully decorated pathway and pass through the green and purple entrance of Living Recovery and get ready for one of the best shopping experiences you have had in a long time. Get ready to find the magickal supplies and spiritual gifts (for yourself and others) that you have been looking for.

The scent of Blue Pearl Champa hits you and wakes you up the moment you walk in. As you enter the shop, a stunning redhead dripping with some of the most gorgeous beaded and silver jewelry you have ever seen greets you with a smile. If you're lucky, a sturdy Siamese/Himalayan cat with piercing blue eyes and a very vocal presence lets you know you have come to the right place.

Sue Hogan owns and operates Living Recovery on Route 9 in Latham and was generous enough with her time to answer some questions for me.

How would you describe your shop?

I have things for people looking to recognize and enhance their spirituality. Primarily, Living Recovery is where people can come to find books and gifts for the mind, body, and Spirit regardless of what path they are walking.

What made you choose to open this type of business?

I opened a shop because I couldn't find the books and gifts I was looking for when I was beginning my own spiritual search. I've been in business now for twelve years.

Does your spirituality enter in to your business practices?

My spirituality enters into everything I do. It's impossible for me to separate business practices from spirituality. It's reflected in everything I do. It would be like asking me to separate the blue from the sky.

What are your customers like? Who do you attract?

Everybody who walks through my door is on a spiritual quest in one way or another-even if they don't realize it yet for themselves--or else they would not come here. Most people stop by on purpose. It's a lot different from being in a mall. My customers are more focused on their spiritual goals.

What items do you carry that would be of particular interest to Pagans?

Altar tools including cauldrons, mortar and pestle, statuary, candles, oils, incense, books, crystals, Tarot decks, and of course the jewelry. There is so much to see. There's new stuff coming in all the time. I just got some beautiful amethyst clusters.

What is your specialty?

I specialize in 12 step gifts, hand beaded jewelry, and Celtic and Pagan Jewelry.

Can people e-mail you to request items or special order?

Oh sure. That's fine. My address is [email protected] .

I would like to thank Sue for taking the time to share her answers and I encourage you to "stop by on purpose" and check out the fine array of goods at Living Recovery. The address is 1105 New Loudon Road (Rt. 9). If you need directions or are interested in a particular item, call 518-785-5258. Sue will be glad to help.

Peace.
