Holistic Studies: Nurturing Mind, Body and Spirit

Session 1 Classes (9 am)

Introduction to Wicca (Christine D'Allaird). Get a handle on the modern practice of ancient beliefs called Wicca. Discuss the basics of the Wiccan religion, including Deity, ritual format, magickal practice, and ethics. Geared towards new seekers as well as family/friends of Wiccans.

Meditation (Marcella Luongo). Meditation is beneficial for health and well-being, as well as a means of honing your magical skills. Spend a relaxing class session increasing your facility with this important foundational skill.

Meaningful Funeral Rituals (Dave Carpentier). "Death is not an enemy to be conquered or a prison to be escaped. It is an integral part of our lives." Please join me in this class and learn to plan meaningful funeral rituals that celebrate life. We will discuss funeral rituals for humans and animals.

Sacred Circle Dancing (Kerri Vaughn). Free the mind, body and spirit through sacred dance! No experience required, all dances will be taught.

Polyamory (Jen Fegan-Szalay). Polyamorists live and support responsible non-monogamy. Requisite are total honesty in relationships, safer sex practices and lots of trust. Find out more about this lifestyle and discuss pro’s and con’s.
 

Session 2 Classes (10:15 am)

Women's Mysteries (Jen Fegan-Szalay). Discuss the idea of feminine divine and how that concept impacts our daily lives and our culture. Examine the the Goddess as an archetypal role model for women in a culture that sends mixed messages about female societal roles.

 Essential Oils (Marcella Luongo and Ellen Sadowski). Experience using essential oils for emotional and spiritual healing and Chakra balancing.

Animal Ethics and Connectedness (Silver Threewolves).Challenge the presumption of human superiority in relationship to animals. Examine the spiritual partnership which exists beyween all living beings. Discuss the need for ethics, morality and respect in the human/animal dynamic.

Physical Energy Interaction (Frank Szalay). An energy sensitivity workshop dealing with breath and the healing hands of Polarity. Identify what the energy feels like and work to polarize or rebalance your body. Please refrain from red meat/heavy foods for 24 hours prior to workshop. Wear loose, natural clothing without metal, rings, or jewelry and bring a blanket to lay on. Class size limited to 15 participants!

Pictorial Tarot (Dee Coyle Anderson and Allan Patnode). Bring your cards and learn a simple spread for insightful intuitive readings. Class size limited to 10 participants!
 

Session 3 Classes (11:30 am)

Weaving the Web (Carolyn Maroney). Thirteen alternative traditions will be discussed. You will receive 13 decorative cards that you can fill out with lots of information about these traditions to take home with you. This workshop introduces you to the shared concepts, archetypes, and customs of 13 paths being practiced around the world.

Introduction to Yoga (Ellen Sadowski). Yoga eases the body and stills the mind so the spirit can come through more clearly in all we do. Through postures, breathing, and meditation we become stronger, and more conscious, focused, and relaxed.

Intro to Chanting (Maryann Fairman). Chanting is a transformational use of the human voice for meditational or devotional purposes. Enhance your spiritual practices with chants taught in this workshop.

The Language of Magick (Dee Coyle Anderson). Learn the secret language of magickal correspondences. Improve the effectiveness of your spellwork through fluency in this practical, though sometimes elusive language.
 

Session 4 Classes (2 pm )

Raising Children Pagan (Dee Coyle Anderson). Discuss the joys and trials of raising children Pagan in our Judeo-Christian culture. Learn ways of engaging children in ritual, mythology and earth-centered activities.

Imagery for Wellbeing (Michael G. Perman). An exploration of the mind-body connection, and how imagery can assist in reconnecting with wellbeing and wholeness. Using hypnotic techniques with the breath we can facillitate a return to joyfulness, acceptance and truth.

Land Singing: Being the Instrument (Silver Threewolves).Rediscover the employment of the human instrument, the voice, for the expression of world-sound vibration. Sunlight, a corn field, a creek in autumn and moonlight on water, can be expressed as reflections of exquisitely acute consciousness. Discuss the experience and techniques of "becoming the instrument".

Using Poetry and Literature as a Basis for Ritual (Nanci Bakerian). Learn to incorporate beautiful language into your rituals and discover new sources for inspiration.
 

Session 5 Classes (3:15 pm )

Sacred Space (Donna Fennelly). A recent trand in home decor in keeping with Pagan practices is the creation of sacred spaces or altar areas within ones home and garden. Discuss practical means for creating sacred spaces in your living environment.

Healing Through Touch:Introduction to Reiki (Allan Patnode and Randall Schryver). An overview of basic concepts, theories and techniques associated with the practice of Reiki and the participants will each have an opportunity to experience a "mini" Reiki treatment. Note: class does not offer Reiki Attunement, it does offer the participant an excellent starting point from which further study may be pursued. Enrollment limited to 10 participants.

Ritual Drumming (Mark Anderson).Drumming is a great enhancement to group ritual or to solitary meditation. Beginners and experienced drummers alike will enjoy bringing their drums and learning some African and Middle-Eastern rhythms.

Seasonal Wreath Making (Sheree Britten). Express your spirituality with seasonally appropriate wreaths. Get practical advice on the materials to use in construction of wreaths. Create a wreath to bring home. Materials fee for all participants ($10)! Class size limited to 15 participants!
 

Class policies:

HVPN Members: Attendance at HVPN U is a Membership benefit.* Pizza will be available for lunch for a nominal charge. Pre-registration is still strongly suggested in order to avoid getting closed out of your preferred classes!

Non-Members: Enclose check or money order for $25 ($30 at the door, but you risk being closed out of your preferred classes), bring money if you’d like to share lunch with us.* If you’d rather, you are also welcome to bring your own lunch instead.

*All Participants: Materials fees are payable in cash to the instructor prior to working with materials in class. Many classes have limited enrollment due to space or content considerations. To avoid being shut out of a class, pre-registration is strongly advised!
