A Divination Ceremony
Divination, the act of finding out information
through the use of other than normal means, is based on the idea that it is possible
to communicate with an aspect of your Higher Self or with a Divinity. This rite
is intended to facilitate this type of communication and can be used with any
method of divination one may choose such as Tarot, crystal balls, dowsing devices,
mirrors, etc. Samhain, the Celtic New Year, is a traditional time of year for
Divination seeking information about what the new year will bring.
- Prepare for the ceremony by gathering the necessary tools together. A divination
brew can be made following herbs: Angelic Root 1 tsp., Damiana Leaf 1 tsp.,
Mugwort herb 1 tsp., plus 1 Cinnamon stick coarsely ground. Mix all the ingredients
together. Then steep 1 tsp. of the blended herbs in 1 cup of boiling water.
While this brew is infusing for the magickally potent 13 minutes, you may
take a relaxing meditative bath, if desired.
- Darken the room in which you will perform the divination. Light a golden
candle, one which is used solely for the purpose of divination.
- Light an appropriate incense.
- Seal the room to form a protected space using whatever means (eg: Casting
a Circle) that you are familiar and comfortable with.
- Take your place for the divination. Anoint yourself on the third eye position
with a divination oil (eg: lavender oil )
- Sit peacefully in the glow of the candle, sipping the brew and breathing
in the scent of your incense. Meditate for a few minutes on the subject of
the divination.
- When you are ready to begin, say the following invocation:
Oh Hecate*, Goddess of magick and prophecy, hear my words. You who
holds all the secrets of the Universe within your great Cauldron of Truth,
permit me, I ask, to drink of its waters and to peer into its mysterious depths
where I might see that which was, that which is, and that which is to be.
May my eyes be opened, may I understand that which I see, and may I convey
your messages to where they are needed. So mote it be.
- Divine using the method of your choice.
- When you have completed the divination extinguish the candle after saying
these words:
I thank you Lady of Prophets, Guardian of the Wise, for guiding me in these
ways and for the illumination which I have received. Blessed be.
* You may insert here the name of the Goddess of your choice if there is one that
you prefer to work with other than Hecate.
