| Calypso is a 3 year old female jensun conure, half sun conure and half jenday conure. She is pretty much a one person bird - in fact, I jokingly call her my "attack bird" because, if she is not caged when friends come over, she will fly over and try to bite them! Needless to say, Calypso now usually stays in her cage when people come over. She also squawks an alarm call whenever anyone walks by our house and when the poor mailman puts mail in the mailbox on the porch. But as territorial as she is with other people, she is a clingy little lovebug with me (and only me!). I am her favorite perch - and Calypso is fully flighted, so she follows me everywhere in the house, even down to the basement to do laundry, where she perches on top of the clothes dryer and watches me work. Aside from me, Calypso loves food, especially someone else's food, and she loves my food most of all. So I eat lots of healthy veggies like broccoli and sweet potato, knowing that she will want me to share with her - and she gets bits from my plate before I start eating, to avoid me passing her any human germs or bacteria that are harmful to birds. When she's done eating, she uses my shoulder as her napkin. Between the beak wiping and the occasional poop (well ok, the frequent poops!) it's a good thing I purposely wear old t-shirts around the house! |
