| CHARITY: GIVING BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY |
|||||||||||
| Charity is one of the most important aspects of the MOMS Club International and the MOMS Club of Phoenix, Happy Valley. We hope to teach our children the importance of giving back to the community. As a chapter, we strive to participate in multiple service projects throughout the year. The Executive Board is always thinking of new projects and ways of contributing to the community. However, we always look to our membership to provide us with recommendations for organizations. Around every quarter we like to ask our members if they have any ideas or have heard of any charitable organizations that might need a little help. We are fair about our selection process by sending out emails and reminders to ensure our entire membership has an opportunity to provide feedback. We then take the recommendations and inform everyone about each organization and we vote based on the information we receive. We contact the winning organization and invite them to have a representative speak at our business meeting. This works magnificently because our members get to hear first hand who we are helping. During the past 2 years, we hosted three different Kid Sales that benefited three different children's charities. Our Kid Sales consists of our members selling gently used and new children's clothing and toys to the general public. Our first sale rasied $800 for the Children's Angel Foundation through Hacienda Healthcare. Our second sale benefited Maggie's Place with a donation of $1300 to provide services for expectant women who find themselves alone or homeless. And this fall, we continued our successful efforts by raising over $2000 for The Real Gift Foundation. This amazing charity provides necessary aid to children of homeless families. In addition to our Kid Sales, some of our members supported the Salvation Army's Angel Tags program and fulfilled holiday wishes for local children. As a chapter, we also assisted in a neighborhood toy drive. These amazing and successful service projects could not have taken place without the remarkable group of mothers who volunteered to help. |
