The Price family were among the earliest settlers in Sussex County, NJ.  It is said that the three brothers (Robert, Samuel and ?) had been involved in the shipping business, lost their ships at sea, and then moved to Sussex County.  There was a story that one of the brothers was abducted by Indians as a child and was not returned to white society until he was about 18.  The story was that he and his mother were both taken from their cabin during a raid.  His mother understood the language of the Indians who took them and overheard them saying that they were going to kill her.  She told her son that no matter what happened, he was not to cry or they would kill him too.  She was killed shortly thereafter.  After coming to Sussex, Robert and Samuel stayed in the area, raising families there.  The other brother stayed only for a while, then moved back to the NY area.

One of their descendants was William Biles Price.  William lived with his mother's parents (the Howells) in Warren County for a period of time before he married.  He and his wife then stayed in Warren County during the early years of their marriage, but moved to Dickinson County, Iowa with their # children (Phebe,,,,,,,) before the census of 1870.
