The name Chwialkowski is pronounced 2 different ways by this particular group of relatives. Some pronounce it "Fi-a-kowski" and others pronounce it "Thi-a-kowski". In actuality, the original "proper" Slavic pronounciation was probably a cross between the two. There are several letters in the Slavic alphabet which do not translate well into English, being a cross between several of our letters. I do not know at this time what the original spelling or pronounciation would have been, because there are probably several possiblities. |
