Entry for November 9, 2006
After the rapture, the harsh reality. Of course, anything was better than a Bush victory, but even before the last result is declared we learn that Democrat critics of the war in Iraq are anxious to cooperate with the Republican warmongers; anxious not to be seen to 'cut and run', in the idiot phrase of Bush-Blair speak. It is already apparent that the real policy movers in the future as in the past will be the pro-Israel lobby of America where the Jewish influence is greater than ever after the mid-term elections, and at its greatest in Democratic constituencies. And of course we have already heard Britain's foreign secretary pleading her master's cause, preparing the way for Blair's last stand. So, after the euphoria of Bush's defeat and Rumsfeld's political demise, let us not expect too much good news. The Anglo-American political establishment is intact. It will be a long time before the burglars who have invaded Iraq leave the land they have pillaged and volunteer to give up the oil and other riches they have seized. Freedom for Iraq remains hog-tied to freedom for the Palestinian people. And like all burglars, the occupiers of these Arab lands will be very cognisant of their rights and privileges.
