| It's amazing how people will spend tons of money on roses, gifts and candy on valentines day. America's retailers really takes advantage and reap the benefits of such holidays as mothers day, fathers day and of course valentines day. On February 13th I was called to the house of a family of four. The dispatcher reported, domestic in progress. I work as a police officer and get to see some things that really make you count your blessings. It's amazing how the funniest commercials on television are usally the beer commercials. The beer companies will show a very beautiful girl who has the body of a model and a man who is usally tall, dark and handsome and has a great sense of humor. But what I see as a policeman is no where near what commercials portray. The results that alcohol has on a individual or family is altogether different than those expensive super bowl beer commercials. On that paticular night I got to see two young boys hurrying down the road with a look on their face that is hard to describe. They were fleeing from their drunken dad. I looked at a mother who was not a beautiful model like the ones in the beer commercials. She was thin, poor and broken. I talk to a man who wasn't tall dark and handsome. He was crying, tattooed and had a beer belly. He said, It all started over a commode. (I can't ever remember seeing a beer commercial like that.) The drunken father went on to tell me that his dad was also an alcoholic and that he had a tough life growing up. I responded by asking, Why would you want your sons to have that same experience ? I then went on to tell him about Jesus and how Jesus could heal him of his alcoholic disease. I didn't make any arrests. As time passed by he began to sober up a little. They both agreed to try and make things work out. The next day February 14th Valentines day. I seen a man buying roses off of a vendor beside the road. I thought of the title "Six Pack and a Dozen Roses." This sermon is for those men, women and children who are victims of alcohol. Jesus loves you and can give you a new life. He can clean you up and heal you of the devils addiction. Pray this prayer... Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. Father I have got a sickness of alcohol addiction. Forgive me O'Lord. Heal me of my desires to drink. Create in me a new heart. Teach me to love my wife 365 days a year. Guide me as a father to my children. Help me to train them up in the way they should go. Save my soul. Have mercy on me a sinner... (Kneel down wherever you can. Be silent and pray...) In Jesus name I pray, AMEN. P.S. Count your blessings, name them one by one and will see what God has done. Jesus loves you ! |
