Dave Vasey is a trained Environmental Scientist, with a diploma in Environmental Technology from Durham College. He lives in Kincardine and works in the lab at Bruce Power. It is this background of training and expertise that has led Dave to believe that the Green Party is the only party that is moving in the right direction on issues that matter most. As a life-long resident of the riding, he shares a love of our communities, our land and our people. One of the things that most inspires me is our ability to come together and bond with our fellow townspeople. To know the personalities, characters and hardships of each other and the respect that we give our leaders sets us apart. Dave feels that collectively, the communities of Huron-Bruce recognize that each town is part of the whole, none too different from the other. We are a caring community, we rally for those experiencing hard times, and celebrate our achievements as individuals and groups with heartfelt pride. His vision is to help Huron-Bruce become a model of progress that Canadians and even the rest of the world can look to as a place where the citizens have come together to overcome such dangerous and tricky problems as water quality, energy diversity and personal health. I grew up in Walkerton. The water crisis inspired me to stop the blame cycle. I saw the effects of our current system of government and wanted to find a better way, because what we are doing is not working. I began to study and learn of the imbalances between nature and us. It wasnt long before I realized that there is a better way, a more sustainable way. Our community is of the land. It is our pride and our lifeblood and I intend to fight to defend our land from pollution and deterioration. I want our children to enjoy the wonderful intricacies of our home. I intend to expedite the use of wind power, so that we can clean up the air and thus our health. I want pesticides to not end up in our drinking water. Farmers should not have to compete with corporations on an industrial scale. I want to preserve what we have, make it last and make it strong. The Green Party advocates a shift of taxes away from people and profits, and on to non-renewable resources. Companies that are striving to improve their methods should be rewarded; our health depends on it. Dave agrees and says: These things start with a healthy land and a healthy diet. Fast foods and junk foods are quickly becoming cheaper than making a good home cooked meal. There is something wrong with this. The problem is easily seen in obesity and cancer statistics. What if we shifted the burden of our increased health care costs to the purchase price of these products like we do with cigarettes? We will save billions of dollars each year in health care. Dave wants to share his vision with you, on a grassroots level. He will spend the next few weeks traveling to high schools and town meetings to assert new ideas and would love to have your input, so that we can all work together for a sustainable future. |
