She was one of the first Advaita gurus I've heard.  A friend of mine, Mischa, used to play her tapes and videos.  I saw her in 2000 in Cambridge, Ma and she's even more radiant in person.  She's an American jnana who speaks with clarity.  Another friend, Trisha, gave me her videos and I used to show them at the CCTV, Cambridge Public Access Cable TV.  I believe CCTV is still showing those videos...over and over again.

As her ads would say, "She invites participants to inquire deeply into their own being. She helps guide them to an awareness of their true identity as the Truth of Being, as Consciousness, As Pure Love itself. -- Not as an idea or visualization, not as an affirmation of a spiritual ideal, but rather as direct, authentic, vivid and undeniable experience."

I'm not sure about these marketing lines but Gangaji is popular and she's easy to listen to.  For some reason the female Advaita gurus in the West are sweet and some of the male ones tend to get themselves tangled in concepts too much.  At the end it comes down to shakti and zap or whatever you call that...and from her influence, I think she's got plenty of zap.  I know some of her followers came out of the zap at some point and even told her and Gangaji was pretty cool about it.  I suppose if you're new to nonduality and enjoy your advaita sweet, she'd be the one to listen to...and once you fall in love with her then you're in luck.

I know there are some advaita snobs who think she's too light and her message is watered down, sweetened advaita but...I think they're missing the point.  Guru relationship goes beyond concepts and it's all about love.  If she were to zap you....then that's all you need.  She never zapped me but I like her.  I also like her husband Eli who does Enneagram.  It may seem contradictory that for a woman who made her fame by telling everyone "you are That."...Eli enjoys the categories of the ego but... for what's worth, Enneagram is entertaining and Eli is good at it.  I definetely recommend them both.  If you enjoy your nonduality bitter and neti-neti type...then try U.G. Krishnamurti....(though some would claim even UG, the cranky old man is sweet in person...it may even be true because in the videos you can see that mischivious twinkle in his eyes).

I started the Gangaji Yahoo Group in 2000 for people to share and discuss Gangaji related ideas (whatever that means!  It's late at night and I am tired.  My advaita side usually comes out late at night.)

ps.  if you ever fall in love with her, please don't sing songs by repeating her name "gangaji, gangajiiiii."  that's really annjoying, unless of course you're a famous singer and a great talent.
