| Where does one begin to tell who she is?? So much goes into who a person is once she reaches this phase of life (over 40....heehee). Okay, just jump right in and quit beating around the bush, Cynthia..... I was raised in a Christian home. My parents were both very active in church life and very aware of raising their children to know the Lord. All three of their children are walking with the Lord and their 5 grandchildren are believers and their two great-grandchildren are being raised in the church (both are still very young in 1999). I do not have a "gutter-to-glory" testimony. Instead, I have a quiet testimony of growing in the Lord. Yes, I have had my share of walking outside of His will for my life, but I have always come back to Him and never really strayed too far or for very long. God has been very real to me and I have run to Him for protection from many of the enemy's evil snares. I praise Him for my Christian heritage. At the age of 10, I invited Jesus into my heart and was baptized. By the time I was 13 years old, I had faced 3 deaths of very close family members. First, my Mom's momma, MeMaw, died when I was around 9 years old. Then my Mom's daddy, Granddaddy, died a few months later. But neither of those prepared me for the next loss I would face. On a Saturday morning in February of 1971, I was awakened from my sleep by an explosion. I ran outside to discover that my father had been severely burned on the upper part of his body. On Sunday, Daddy went into a coma and then on Thursday the Lord called him home. I was almost 13 years old, my sister was 28 and brother was 25.... ...this was NOT supposed to happen to a 13 year old kid. I don't really remember much about that time except that during the funeral, I heard something about my Heavenly Father that has sustained me through many, many trials. That pastor said, "There are times in our lives that we look at our circumstances and say 'I don't know why this happened.' This is one of those times. I don't know why God chose to call this man/husband/father/grandfather home, but I know my God and He knows why." Dear friends, let me tell you....if that pastor had used the word sovereignty in that statement at any point, he would have lost me. Because of the words he used, as a 12 1/2 year old I, understood what he said and hung on to those words then and I am STILL hanging on to those words today. Fast-forward to today.....Today, I still know that my God knows why ~~ He knows why He loves me in spite of my rebellion and rejection of Him and He woos me ever so tenderly back to Himself. The journey I am on right now is one of learning to completely surrender my stubborn will to His perfect will and plan for my life and to always HUPOMENO!!!! As I continue my story in the pages ahead.... I will always be ever mindful of pointing you to Jesus -- Because it's all about HIM!!!! |
