How Can I become a union Ironworker?

Each local union in the country has a different  application process.  In st. Louis you must apply in person at the construction training school The address of the school is:

after you fill out the application you must then take a general aptitude test the SAt-a.  Next you must attend a two week four hour a day pre-apprenticeship class which stresses job safety and introduces prospective members to the trade.  The final step in the process is a interview.  Each person is interviewed by representatives of the union and the associated general contractors. 

An applicants score on the aptitude test, his/her grade in the pre-apprentice class, and their score on the interview are all combined and then ranked from highest to lowest.  The highest scores get in.
