What are some pro's and con's about becoming a union ironworker?

pros

1. The people who are union ironworkers are among the finest that you will meet anywhere in the world.
2. You do not work in the same place for very long.  
3. You do not work with the same people for very long.
4. you are free to work for any union contractor that will hire you.  you do not have to rely on one employer.
5. the work is very interesting and their are many opportunities to show your skill.
6. There is a great variety of things that ironworkers do.  the job is rarely boring.
7. many owners of steel erection companies started as ironworkers.
8. The wages are pretty darn good

Cons

1. the construction industry is very sensitive to the economy.  It is the first to suffer during times of recession.
2. Most of the work is outdoors which is not bad in itself, but, bad whether can cut your income and winters can be damn cold.
3. The work is dangerous.
