My name is Amanda and my aunt Ann has Huntington's. For the last 8 years my now 40 year old aunt has been in and out of homes. Last year her sisters Lisa and Kristy vistited her in Central City Ne in October 2008. When they visited her there Ann was a good weight and healthy. After thier visit Ann was moved to a new nursing home without any one in the family knowing. Her volunteer guardian Violet did not update the family on her condition or her ware abouts and has never visited Ann.
Last Friday May 29, 2009 we recived a call from Ann's social worker, Brenda. She said that Ann was sicker and wanted family to be by her side because she is now of hospic since January. Again Ann's sisters Lisa, Kristy and thier mother journied to Ann's new home in Kenasaw Ne where they found Ann is a horriable state. Ann had broken all of her front teeth from falling and had bruises on her face along with bumps. Her arms and head where all scratched because no one had clipped her dirty fingernails. She was now only 80lbs. Her medication consisted of 3 types of morphine and four types of laxatives. Morphine is never used on Huntington's pattiants. Her doctor could not have know what she was doing.
Ann asked many times to go home back to Omaha. But there is a problem. No one in the family is her guardian. So now we are filling out paper work to get one of Ann's sisters to be the new guardian. I hope everyting goes well. Here are pictures before and after. |
