Huntington, Williamstown win WSAZ wrestling titles

Host Huntington emerged as the Class AAA and overall team champion Saturday night at the WSAZ Invitational, holding off Riverside, Ohio.

The Highlanders finished with 230 points, 321/2 more than Riverside, which is located near Cleveland. Herbert Hoover (1671/2), Point Pleasant (152) and Cabell Midland (130) rounded out the top five.

Four Huntington athletes won their respective weight classes.

The Class AA champ was Williamstown (186), followed by Independence (1541/2), Wirt County (92), St. Marys (74) and Jackson, Ohio. (641/2)

Nitro placed three wrestlers into the finals and all of them won - Jacob Frerichs (103 pounds) Matt Easter (112) and Robbie Ripley (140). The Wildcats ended up sixth as a team with 127 points.

Herbert Hoover sent two into the championship round - Wesley Lane earned a title at 135 and Seth Moales was the runner-up at 215.

Blennerhassett won the junior high championship, Point Pleasant the middle school title and Cabell Midland the ninth grade crown.
