The HSA league is still up for grabs after a thrilling round of action of  Butler Stadium.

Willard Porter showed what an engine he has in his first taste of HSA action this season, playing in 7 out of the 11 matches played. It makes quite a mockery of Premiership football managers complaints when their stars are called on to play more than once in a week. The Rooneys and Ronaldos of this world would be brought to their knees by the gruelling schedule of a round of HSA match play.

Willard was to start and end badly, but his 100% record in between, including a crucial 1-0 victory over defending champion Dazza Butler, elevated him to third in the table, with a chance of a first league title. Only four points separate the top 3 with each having 2 games left to play. Lets leave the rather complex permutations until later and focus on the raw facts of completed match play.  The first talking point was Willards decision to play Dave Butler first up in his first match for over a year rusty as he was he went down 5-0. Some asked if he had lost it during his year away, whether his recent engagement had distracted him from the game he loves. He answered his critics emphatically with wins against his brother Tom (3-0), Mr B (2-0), and a very tense 1-0 win against Dazza.

In the other matches Dazza recorded a 4-0 win over his father, Tom drew 0-0 with Mr B, despite some good attacking play from the HSAs most senior player, and Dave B completed doubles over Mr B (5-0) and Willard (3-0) with two victories which take him to the top of the league. This means that Mr Bs fate is sealed as his earlier 1-0 defeat to Tom puts him bottom of the league. There was a definite improvement in his play, however, and if he can improve his shooting, hell be threatening the goalkeepers next season. Fourth position is also assured for Tom Porter, who will also look to improve his shooting for next season, if he is to challenge the top three.

In Willards final league game with Dave there was much optimism as it followed three straight victories including that win over Dazza. His hopes were dashed early on, however, when his keeper let in an innocuous looking shot. The members enjoyed some footage of a subbuteo clip during a recent episode of Coronation Street (full marks to Mr B for capturing this!) where Ken Barlow exhibited some of the most appalling goalkeeping ever seen maybe this rubbed off on the players that day?
