| In the debut issue Dazza Butler reviews the 2005 League - the HSA's fastest ever season It's a Claret Heaven - Again! Is it really a year since St.Ives Mustangs won their first league title in such dramatic fashion? With Butlers Giants still reeling over their shock defeat last year and resigning themselves to a goodwill tour of the Americas, it was left to the gang of four as they have been dubbed, to do battle once more. The Mustangs carried on were they left off with a 3-0 win over St.Anns Diamonds, although they did look a little rusty. Title contenders Willard Price Argyle got off to a good start with a 2-0 victory over Dads Army (formerly Finger Flicking Fury). However the young Turk was put to the sword by the Mustangs when they clinched a 2-0 win. The Diamonds saw off Dads Army fight for third place with a 2-0 victory and a 0-0 draw. However, anyone expecting the Army to roll over and die against the Mustangs was in for a shock. The halftime score of 1-1 so shocked the champions that people said they could hear manager Darren Butler using the hairdryer treatment on his players. The tactics worked and the mustangs ran out 4-1 winners. The contest was warming up nicely with the Mustangs and W.P.A. fighting for the championship like two pit-ball terriers over a packet of sausages. However Argyles lack of firepower was their undoing and a 0-0 draw against local enemies the Diamonds cost them the title. The Mustangs hoped to celebrate their second championship in style but the Argyle had a final sting in their tale when they clinched their first ever win over the Mustangs. Is this the sign of a changing tide? Will the Giants ever regain the title they thought was their birthright? Youll have to wait till next year!
