30 Seconds that shook the HSA
Mustangs clinch title from Real with last-flick-of-the-season wonder goal
If the last season of the HSA, which ran for three years, was a marathon, this was a sprint - and one with an explosive finish. An end that many who saw it said couldn't have been written - one that was beyond even a comic footballing hero like Roy of the Rovers. Instead it was Dazza of the Mustangs who grabbed the headlines, dramatically winning his first league title with quite literally the last flick of the season.

After some inpressive defending had kept the game locked at 0 - 0, a result that would've seen Real retain the league, the ball was 'professionally' steered towards the corner flag deep in the Mustang's own half. With seconds left on the clock there was probably only one way that the Mustangs couldve won the league, and it was done in a way that will go down in HSA folklore. The ball was flicked at pace from one end of the field to the other. Clearly not expecting such an audacious move, Real were caught off guard, becoming onlookers to the moment of the season. Having flicked the ball from one end of the pitch to the other, Darren then pounced round the table with the agility of a cat, took aim with the intended recipient of the pass and fired towards the ball. Catching the ball at exactly the right angle it was sent straight into the corner. David looked about him for some explanation whilst Darren and his followers celebrated.

For David it was his first league defeat and trophyless season since the summer of '88. Then it was also Darren who brought about his downfall, although on that occasion he couldn't capitalise to win the title, losing out to Hugh Williams of Williams City. It is, in fact, only David's second league defeat, but poigniantly, the first season in which he has failed to beat his brother. He was last spotted boarding a plane to Mexico in an attempt to forget this nightmare end to the season.

For Darren it signals his first ever league title and he becomes only the third player to win it. As the current holder of the HSA Cup he becomes the number one ranked player in Huntingdon for the first time.
