EL SUBBUTEO
Bolivian Oblivion
Dave Butler reports on withdrawal symptoms in Bolivia
It was the British who introduced football into Bolivia. Unfortunately they didn't have the foresight to introduce Subbuteo at the same time. As a result the country is completely dry, not having even a single registered player to its name. It is also difficult to find proper tea here, making Bolivia a difficult place to survive.

I have, of course, searched for a trace of the beautiful game. Alas, asking for subbuteo in La Paz's toy shops, I was shown that hideous French game based more on luck, 'Baby-foot'.

As a result, my withdrawal symptoms, temporarily lightened by my session in Peru, have worsened: my playing finger continually shakes and I have recurring dreams where I am playing subbuteo - unfortunately, for now, Subbuteo remains confined to my dreams.

I count the days to Buenos Aires, where I will get my next fix: the hive of activity there should allow me to gorge myself on our glorious game. Buenos Aires translates into English as 'Fresh Air' and what could be fresher than a massive session of Subbuteo?
