Welcome to my short review on the GameCube game :Metroid Prime. I'll throw in some screenshots from the official site and explain about them and all the cool shiny things nintendo people put into the game such as enemy creations and environmental effects that make most gamers dribble some water from their lower lip...
Ok... now to start this off, if you haven't played the original metroid don't worry, those were awesome games too... For those of you trigger happy people, there's plenty of shootin in this game with guns and infinite energy blaster. I started out in the game watching any intros that may pop up... some company logos, then some kind of microscopic image of a creature i s'pose is a metroid or something, very cool lookin, i select new game and it goes onward into the 1st area on the space research facility. Here it starts off teaching basic controls and such, then i start havin fun scanning everything i can with my visor, I am amazed so far at the gamecube graphics... the best is yet to come... Without giving any teasers lemme get into creature A.I. hmmm... hows about, VICIOUS SUICIDAL! not much for mindless until you scan a creature and read that it lives on instinct and some kind of defense mechanism beyond belief. like this guy... oh hes vicious, he/she/it hides in the snow, only it's breath is picked up on scanners, it reflects all shots whether it's charged beam, or missile... the key is to attack the vulnerable back and destroy the protective ice carapace... have fun gettin behind em and avoiding the freezing acid balls it spits. Did i mention it rams? Many creatures have powerful and elaborate def. abilities especially ones that deal with fire, energy, ice, acid, and solid armor...

The environment effects are godly in detail... All the ways to a point where u wanna sing "Rain drops are falling on my head." since you can see the drops landing on your visor window when you look up. Another effect is jumping outta water and seeing the water wash off your visor just like the car windshield. Whats real great on detail is the heat sensing visor upgrade you get some time into the game... very useful against invisable enemies and in dark rooms. This shows heat as red etc. but when you're in a room where steam is coming out of the wall, it's great ta see where the interior pipings are, the pipes that are warm/hot show up on the infrared visor. Unfortunately, if you're visor steams up from walking into a steam jet, or from traveling in a heated environment magma related, you won't be able to see shit. Ice has it's own effects, It's great to see that small ice crystals build up on your visor when you get wind of something cold. Just don't freeze over, it's a pain in the ass when you get frozen stiff and gatta thaw quick b4 Mr. bad guy comes for it's second attack...

Where would Metroid Prime be without this nifty little advantage? Turning into ball mode is extremely helpful throughout the game in finding items and fitting into those hard to fit places, even for a areo dynamic woman like samus aran. Dropping energy bombs is used to clear obstacles or to help samus jump in this mode. Unfortunately, some creatures will eat you when you're in this mode... ball bomb 'em! In time many upgrades will come that will utilize some crazy abilities for the ball mode like a magnet attract mode so you can climb up special tracks.

A few things I really love in this game is how enemy science is so easily explained, when you can an enemy, the game will tell you pretty much how that creature functions. Another thing i LOVE in this game is how you shoot a charged beam and watch it's heat distort the area where it travels, and how rapid fire makes this heat wave lift off of your blaster just like distant heat does in traffic. A great effect that i doubt was easy to do was to get Samus' face to reflect off the inside of her visor when the right lighting lights her face up and bounces off the inner of her visor. Great work there to whoever strained in front of a computer for 5 weeks figuring out that one...
