Thoughts on Materialism

I think I figured out the key to non-materialism. Why do we buy the little things in life? To make us happier people, correct? But why are our lives structured so that we think such little things can bring us that missing piece in the happiness puzzle? Are we truly that unhappy? If we were content in our lives, then there would be no motivation to go buy that new car, or new set of clothes, or new mattress to get rid of back pain. Do these little things really create the bulk of our happiness? I know that in my life if I can see my fair share of humanity, sunrises, good people, good conversations etc. then there is no need for improvement; therefore in my life, what motivation is there to go out and buy new shoes? For me, there is none. Therefore I propose that as people, we stop trying to make the little things in life make us happy, and we concentrate on just changing the way we live if we feel unsatisfied or unfulfilled. Because if the little things truly make us happy, then what need is there to be buying more crap as long as we live? It does not at all seem to bring the happiness we so desire and long for. Lets all just throw out all our crap and make a big deal about the good things in life-not the empty void of materialism.
