1ST APPEARANCE: ROBOTECH: BOOBYTRAP
VERITECHS are the primary source of defense against the Zentradi and other hostile aliens. Thay were first developed using tehnological data taken from the SDF-1 when it first crashed on Earth.
The VERITECH usually looks like a common fighter. It actually can transform into three different modes for combat. The fighter mode has several guns and usually six missles on either wing. The second mode is called Guardian. It looks like an inbetween phase between the fighter and final mode. In Guardian mode, two legs and arms extend from the VERITECH. It also uses the GUNPOD like a rifle. Also the VERITECH can use the jets on the feet to skim along the ground. The final mode is Battloid. This mode looks like a manshaped robot complete with arms, legs, and a head. It still carries the GUNPOD like a rifle but it can also use blasters located on either side of the head. It can move in human like ways and can pull off complicated manuvers in battle. The pilot usually sits the chest area when the VERITECH switches to Battloid.
The VERITECH can withstand space travel. The pilot's helmet allows them to develop a more personel link with their fighter. Without a helmet, it is impossible to pull out very complicated stunts with the VERITECH. In later years, several add-ons were created including rocket boosters, addtional guns, and more missles launchers. These add-ons can attached or removed depending on the mission. A fighter called a Super VERITECH was also created. It had plenty of weapons but could not transform into fighter or Guardian mode.
The VERITECH was still being used by the time of the Second Robotech War. It paved the way for such weapons as the AGAC ATTACK HELICOPTER and the CYCLONE MOTORCYCLE. The VERITECH itself was upgraded with such models as the ALPHA and BETA FIGHTERS and the stealth capable SHADOW FIGHTERS.
(Note: Other VERITECH models are used in MACROSS 2 and play a pivotal role in MACROSS PLUS. The toy version of Jetfire from TRANSFORMERS looks like a VERITECH.)
