SHIPWRECK was an adopted child who grew up near a Navy shipyard. He went on to become a sailor in the Navy and served a stint battling river pirates in Asia. After his term of service was up, he became a drifter. He ended up in a seedy bar inside a desert town filled with Cobras. He offered to help FLINT and Mutt & Junkyard when they appeared. He used a rocket powered sailboat to skim across the sands. The group was stopped by a sandstorm but they rode ot out and made back to the other Joes. SHIPWRECK helped put a stop Cobra's use of the WEATHER DOMINATOR.
SHIPWRECK somehow got a parrot named Polly. Although he sometimes thinks the bird is annoying, SHIPWRECK sees Polly has a good companion. SHIPWRECK, SNAKE-EYES, Timber, and Polly inflitrated a Cobra base and stole a disc containing information on the PYRAMID OF DARKNESS. With help from a woman named Satin,they got the disc back to JOE HEADQUARTERS and searched it for a way to destroy the Cobra invention.
SHIPWRECK'S nephew Jesse was part of the group of joe family members kidnapped by Cobra. On another mission, He fell in love with Mara, a woman who had been transformed into a water breather by Cobra. SHIPWRECK had to part with her. SHIPWRECK was later on a mission to rescue a scientist who developed a way to turn water into a bomb. He gave SHIPWRECK the knowledge subliminally. SHIPWRECK was kidnapped by Cobra and placed in a fake town called Springfield. SHIPWRECK lived a fairytale life with a cured Mara and a daughter. He found out the whole thing was a lie and with help from Polly, defeated Cobra and destroyed Springfield.
SHIPWRECK was in charge of the group protecting Alexander the Great's tomb from Cobra. They were beaten by Cobra when DESTRO started a fire by blowing up an oil tanker. SHIPWRECK later was one of the Joes picked to be promoted to colonel in a plot to throw the Joes into disarray.
SHIPWRECK by accident destroyed an orphange when he shot down a Cobra craft. The Joes made amends by volunteering to rebuild the orphange. SHIPWRECK entertained the kids by telling them a fairytale using Joes as characters in the story. ZARTAN appeared and impersonated SHIPWRECK.The real thing found him and revealed his disguise. He then used the MCGUFFAN DEVICE to defeat Cobra using the characters in his story.
SHIPWRECK was part of Roadblock's unit when it chased Cobra into COBRA-LA. He was captured with the rest and imprisoned. He took part in the botched escape attempt that ended with everyone, save Roadblock, stuck on the CARNO TREE. He was freed when the other Joes invaded.
(Note: SHIPWRECK is made into a Navy Seal in a group of Joe toys released in the early 90s.)
